Welcome to OpenReaders — a platform providing free and open graded readers for language learners.
We value your privacy and want to be transparent about what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Who We Are
OpenReaders is operated from Germany and is committed to protecting your personal data in compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
2. What Data We Collect
We collect the following types of data:
• Account Information (email address, name if provided): Required for user login and access.
• Usage Analytics: We use PostHog to understand how users interact with the platform (e.g., pages visited, clicks).
• Technical Information: Your IP address, device type, browser, and language settings may be collected via our infrastructure (Google Cloud, Cloudflare).
3. How We Use Your Data
We use your data to:
• Provide and improve our platform.
• Authenticate your account and manage access.
• Analyze usage patterns to improve the learning experience.
• Ensure security and performance of the service.
4. Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely using Supabase (for authentication and database storage) and Google Cloud. All communications are encrypted via HTTPS. We also use Cloudflare for network and DDoS protection.
5. Cookies & Tracking
We do not use cookies. Instead, we use sessionStorage, which is temporary and cleared when you close your browser. For analytics, PostHog is integrated without using persistent identifiers where possible.
6. Sharing Your Data
We do not sell your data.
We only share it with trusted third-party services necessary to run OpenReaders:
• Supabase – authentication & database
• PostHog – product analytics
• Google Cloud – hosting infrastructure
• Cloudflare – security and delivery network
These providers are GDPR-compliant or follow similar data protection standards.
7. Your Rights
Under GDPR, you have the right to:
• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
• Object to or restrict data processing
• Withdraw consent (where applicable)
• Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in Germany: BfDI)

8. Data Retention
We retain personal data only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected. You can request deletion of your account and related data at any time.
9. Children's Privacy
OpenReaders is not intended for children under 16. If we learn that we’ve collected personal data from a child without proper consent, we will delete it promptly.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the platform evolves. We will notify users via the app or email if significant changes are made.
